Harvin vs WhiteHere it comes fantasy fans the drafts are if not here almost here! Receivers in fantasy this season are very deep but looking at the top of the list with guys of course Calvin Johnson, AJ Green, Brandon Marshall, Dez Bryant and then….well it seems like a lot of people like explosive Percy Harvin who is in a new city in Seattle with second year QB Russell Wilson who is in most people’s eyes a upgrade to Harvin’s former QB Christian Ponder.

Harvin was a top WR last year until he had a season ending injury so he is going to be targeted highly this year.

The Vet MR. Roddy White of the Atlanta Falcons is showing no signs of slowing down even with weapons like Julio Jones and Tony Gonzalez, White has still put up big time numbers that have fantasy analyst like ESPN Matthew Berry saying he is a #1 or high end #2 receiver in fantasy this season. Now the question is which one is better for your title run in 2013?

Percy Harvin:

Positives- The versatile play maker is going to a Super Bowl contending team in the Seahawks this year and with Russell Wilson who had one of the best rookie years as a QB last year has fantasy owners drooling over Harvin. If Harvin can post big time numbers with a unproven Christian Ponder at the helm, how can he possibly not be a top 10 receiver this year? If your league is a PPR league then you need to pull the trigger on Harvin. His kick returning and punt returning is one if not the best in the league which will almost guarantee a double digit point performance from him every week as long as he stays healthy. Harvin can also play running back which might intrigue the Seahawks. Harvin averaged almost 10 points a game last year in the games he played even with Adrian Peterson taking up most of the offensive snaps. This guy is big time and in my opinion is still a high end #1 because of two things, 1. His team is going to make sure he gets the ball and 2. Wilson makes people look good, just look at Golden Tate last year who was pretty productive so why can’t one of the most explosive players in the NFL be big time in this offense?

Negatives- Harvin’s team actually might be a concern? Yes you read that right. With Sidney Rice, Marshawn Lynch, Golden Tate, Zach Miller, and Russell Wilson running the football, there just doesn’t look like a lot of big touches for Harvin like there was in Minnesota who had barley anything at WR besides Harvin. The migraines that Harvin suffered in years past have seemed to go away but the season ending injury to Harvin last year early in the year does have some fantasy owners to be a little bit concerned. Hmmm thats it I can’t really find anything else wrong with this guy. He is a fantasy stud and I don’t understand the bad rap he gets at times, besides the amount of touches he gets I think he needs to be picked at the least the 3rd round in most standard drafts.

Roddy White:

Positives- Roddy White is the exact example of what I and a lot of fantasy owners like in a WR which is, Consistency, Big Plays, and Touchdowns. White has shown time and time again that he can produce big time in Fantasy. Even with one of the best receivers in the league in Julio Jones on the opposite end of White, he is still a low end #1 WR. White broke 1,000 yards for the sixth straight year so ya he can produce a lot of yards. White also has had at the least 7 touchdowns in the past 6 years so he is no stranger to the end zone. When White was producing last year, he was having monster games. In standard ESPN fantasy leagues, White broke 10 points 8 of the 16 games which is pretty good for the offense he is in which is loaded at receivers. Point is, Roddy White is a very reliable guy to draft in your drafts whether it is as a #1 or #2 WR, I wouldn’t argue it either way. You will not regret drafting White who has proven he isn’t taking a step back no matter what.

Negatives- Just like Percy Harvin, Roddy White is in a offense with no shortage of big time play makers. Julio Jones is one of the best receivers in the league and Matt Ryan really relies on him. Don’t forget about arguably the best TE in history with Tony Gonzalez back for one final year. It seemed like the week Julio Jones had double digit points Roddy White had been lost and same the other way around so one concern you might have with White or even Jones for that matter is the inability to produce in the same week.

Bottom Line: Both Percy Harvin and Roddy White have proven they are very good fantasy receivers and you should consider both as a #1 or #2 WR on your team. Although both are very productive, I give the edge to Roddy White and my reasoning is this, White does not get injured and has played in every game almost every year of his career and also he has shown consistently that he will produce no matter what and that is why I really like Roddy White as a very dependable player. I personally have owned him and Harvin and both are big time players so there is no debating taking either player for your team.
